What is the own my life course?

This is a 12 week programme for women who are in an abusive and controlling relationship or have experienced domestic abuse in the past. It is designed to help women take control of their lives and move forward. This course can take place online and in person and runs throughout the year at Inverness Women’s Aid.

We have spent years finding a course or programme for the women using our service, that we are passionate about and that we trust. We are delighted to facilitate this course and the feedback we receive is outstanding.

It is a very interactive course and allows women of all walks of life to come together to experience the programme as a small group. There are lots of short videos, discussions and quizzes. On the course, you will receive your own Own My Life Journal to work through with our facilitator through each week. It is full of information, ideas and lots of space to make notes and write reflections.

Who is this course for?

  • You may still be in a relationship with a controlling and abusive partner. However, the online version of the course would not be available to you and you would need to attend the in person sessions. This is for safety reasons.

  • You could be going through a difficult breakup.

  • You could be dealing with a very controlling and difficult ex partner.

  • You may have been out of the abusive relationship for some time but wish to understand what you have been through and how to move forward.

Why would we recommend this course?

  • It helps make sense of what has been done to you.

  • Provides skills to move forward in your life.

  • Help discover strengths you have.

  • Learn about abuser’s behaviour.

  • Learn about the trauma you may have experienced.

  • Help you understand your own behaviours

  • Help build knowledge and skills for future relationships

  • Build self-efficacy

  • Discuss safety

and so much more!

If you would like to discuss this course with one of our facilitators, please do not hesitate to call us on 01463 or alternatively, email us at info@invernesswa.org
