1 in 5 women in Highland experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives. Domestic abuse is the mental, financial, physical and/or sexual abuse by a partner or ex-partner. It is not an isolated incident but usually a pattern of controlling behaviour which gets worse over time.
Children are also affected by domestic abuse. The effects that seeing and hearing domestic abuse can have on children and young people are extensive and varied, possibly affecting physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Inverness Women’s Aid provides holistic support to women and their children experiencing domestic abuse. Our service covers Inverness, Rural Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey. Our staff have good understanding of the specific problems related to domestic abuse, particularly within Highland both town and rural areas, and we work very closely with all professional agencies to ensure that our clients receive all the support they need.
Our service is confidential, which means that, except for certain situations defined by law, we don’t share any information with anyone without the woman’s expressed consent.
